About this guide
metrodebogota.com.co is an independent, unofficial guide to the Bogotá Metro — we're not Empresa Metro de Bogotá (EMB) — and every fact here, from dates to progress figures, is cited to its source. See how we verify each fact against EMB, the Bogotá city government, and IDECA open datasets.
Line 1 construction reached 80.37% complete (as of June 30, 2026), according to EMB / Alcaldía de Bogotá. In practical terms, that means most of the elevated viaduct is already built, test trains are already running as far as Station 4 at 90 km/h (56 mph), and the first newly built station — Calle 26 – Atrio — is fully up and running. See the month-by-month construction tracker.
The first formal proposal for a Bogotá metro dates back to 1942 — earlier than the metro systems of most neighboring capitals — and it's only now, more than 80 years later, actually being built. Read that full story.
