About this area

Avenida Jiménez — and the station on it — takes its name from Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, who founded Bogotá in 1538; the name was given to the street by Acuerdo 31 of the Concejo de Bogotá, in 1917, according to Wikipedia and bogota.gov.co. The avenue was built over the former course of the San Francisco River, channeled starting in 1915, with its first stretch opening in 1938, according to bogota.gov.co. Along with Calle 6, it's the only curved street in Bogotá's historic center, since its layout follows the original bends of the San Francisco River beneath it, according to El Tiempo. The station also has a direct TransMilenio connection confirmed by the Bogotá city government, between calles 11 and 13 on Avenida Caracas, according to bogota.gov.co.
