About this area
This locality takes its name from an actual bridge built in 1573 by colonial magistrate Francisco de Anuncibay over the Chinúa River (known today as the San Francisco River), on the grounds of the old Hacienda Aranda, according to the city government (bogota.gov.co) and the Secretaría de Cultura, Recreación y Deporte. Simón Bolívar camped with his troops on that same estate in 1814, according to las2orillas.co. The original bridge stood until 1944, when it was demolished to make way for Avenida de las Américas, and by 1968-1969 the locality had become Bogotá's official industrial corridor, home to plastics, textile, chemical, and metalworking factories, according to bogota.gov.co and las2orillas.co. That same industrial legacy is what an urban renewal project announced in October 2025 aims to transform: 541.75 hectares of the old factory zone, turned into roughly 35,000 new homes, with a 2.7 trillion peso investment, according to las2orillas.co.
