Timiza Park, at 29.8 hectares in the Kennedy locality, was created in 1961 on land donated by former Colombian president Alfonso López Pumarejo, in response to the new Ciudad Kennedy housing development going up nearby, according to IDRD, Bogotá's sports and recreation agency. From its original construction, the park had mechanical rides around its lake — its main draw then and now — including carousels, spinning teacups, and a Ferris wheel; a small zoo and boat rentals were added in the 1970s, according to the same source. By 2000, the city had removed the rides and boats, shifting the park toward passive recreation, and a 2021 renovation added synthetic-turf football fields, a skate park, a BMX track, playgrounds, and a jogging trail. Today it has an athletics track, basketball and tennis courts, outdoor gyms, and walking paths, according to IDRD — one of the largest green spaces directly next to a Line 1 station.
